DNS Configuration for Hosted Exchange

The following DNS entries are required for Hosted Exchange where you are not using our name servers.

autodiscover.yourdomain.com.au CNAME autodiscover-redirect.openconnect.com.au.
yourdomain.com.au MX ex1-in.mail-filtering.com.au.

We also strongly recommend configuring SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record for your domain as recently a number of large providers have begun rejecting emails which do not have SPF configured.

An SPF record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain. The purpose of an SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged From addresses at your domain.

Use this TXT record if you only have a Hosted Exchange service with us:

yourdomain.com.au TXT v=spf1 include:mail-filtering.com.au -all

Use this TXT record if you have a Hosted Exchange service with us as well as a mail service with another provider:

yourdomain.com.au TXT v=spf1 include:mail-filtering.com.au ~all

Can i create a custom URL for Outlook Web App (OWA)?

Use this CNAME record if you would like to create a custom OWA URL using your domain:

owa.yourdomain.com.au CNAME owa.openconnect.com.au

You will still be able to access Outlook Web App (OWA) from https://owa.openconnect.com.au/ with or without a custom Outlook Web App (OWA) URL.

Important Note: If you are using a cPanel-based hosting service you should also change your DNS settings from within cPanel for your Hosted Exchange domain to "Use Remote Mail Exchanger" otherwise emails sent from your web site will take the path of least resistance and attempt local delivery which will typically fail or be delivered to cPanel's default catch-all email account.
